Parent Testimonials

Mahendra Patel, President and CEO
Dear Student/Parents:
We receive several letters from students who are studying medicine at our various campuses in Europe. Many of the letters are personal in nature, thanking us for the help and support in which we have provided on our campuses. Other letters are written by students who just want to express their viewpoints and describe their experiences while in medical school and in the country in which they are studying. Some of these letters are very emotional and heartfelt, while others are simply informative in nature.

We are very proud of the quality of our students and their commitment to the pursuit of their lifelong dream of becoming good physicians. It is very fulfilling and rewarding for us to see a student march toward his or her goal day by day, month by month and year by year. Many times, it seems as though it happened just yesterday when a student began medical school, and the next thing we realize is that it is time for that student to graduate from medical school. For us, it is a very exhilarating experience to see students reaching the finish line. It is a similar feeling to that of which an experienced coach has about his or her athletes’ achievements during the drive for a gold medal in the Olympics. Our students are like those dedicated, hard working champions of sports, who strive for excellence in their quest to win a medal.

Our students leave the shore and their families behind in pursuit of their dream, and time again they prove that one has to leave the old shore in order to reach a new shore. We believe they are the Columbuses of the modern world. When they put their experiences into words, they take us through the journey of their chosen land. We thought perhaps you may be interested in some of the experiences of our “Olympians” in the field of medicine.

We must thank you very much for all your efforts in getting our daughter, Nutan Khosla, admitted in the Silesian Medical Academy in Katowice, Poland, thru the Hope Medical Institute,Newport News, VA.

It is our great pleasure writing a few lines here about our experience with the Hope Medical Institute and the Silesian Medical Academy mentioned above. Nutan wanted to be a physician and she wanted to study abroad for a few years. When she first applied at the Hope Medical Institute, we were all very skeptical and somewhat nervous, for fear of the unknown. Sending our daughter to a foreign country where nobody knew her was causing more fears in our minds.

But all our fears were almost completely gone after we attended the seminar on board the ship, Leeward/cruise to the Bahamas, in 1996, where we met the many professors, the Dean, and many students of the medical schools in Poland, and many future students of the Medical Schools in Poland, mostly all US citizens, all arranged by the Hope Medical Institute. Future students and their parents could all meet each other face to face. All our questions were answered to our satisfaction. The Hope Medical Institute handled all the things exceptionally well.

So far, our experience has been wonderful. Nutan is happy studying there. We typically saw her during the Christmas holidays, and she always seemed to be in great spirits. She did not waste any time after graduation.

The standard of education of the Silesian Medical Academy in Poland seems to be very high, or the same as US medical schools. They study the same medical books there as the students read here.

Finally, based on our experience, we have no reservation whatsoever in recommending the Hope Medical Institute and the Silesian Medical Academy to any students for a medical career who wish to study abroad in the Medical Schools in Poland.

As parents, we cherished a dream that one of our sons should become a physician. On the verge of dismay at not having our dream fulfilled, one of Hope Medical Institute’s representatives and a family friend told us of this wonderful opportunity to study abroad, leading to a M.D. degree. Our eldest son, Jaswinder, had all along shown signs of getting into the medical field; but in spite of being an over-average dedicated student, it was very frustrating when admission to the U.S. Medical Schools was not forthcoming. Alternately, he was looking into joining a two-year program to become an ambulance technician after losing hope of entering a medical school in the USA.

Imagine our boundless joy when Jaswinder’s chances of entering a medical school abroad suddenly opened up through Hope Medical Institute. The professionalism shown by all at Hope Medical Institute needs no enumeration. It is self-evident from the fact that today Jaswinder successfully completed his education at Lublin Medical School. The one promise that was extracted by Hope Medical Institute representative from Jaswinder was that he was going to work hard at school.

Because of Hope Medical Institute and the vision by its founder, we as parents proudly but humbly hold our heads high in society. We are also proud that Jaswinder had in him the leadership qualities and the keen desire to help humanity, and this quality was finally recognized by Hope Medical Institute. To all the discerning and doubting parents we wish to say only one thing, “Please do not be instrumental in spoiling a bright career for your children when Hope Medical Institute is there to set the high standards so meticulously required in the medical field!” Hats off to a class organization like Hope Medical Institute!

To whom it may concern, Meena Jaswal
My name is Meena Jaswal, and I am the mother of three. My eldest son and daughter are currently completing their final year of clinical rotations in the United States and attended The Medical University of Lublin in Poland through the help of Hope Medical Institute. I was first introduced to HMI through my neighbor and good friends who had a daughter that attended the school. The 6 year program, right out of high school appealed to me and my children because not only would they finish school faster, it would save money in the long run. After discussing it as a family it was decided that we would give this opportunity a chance.

It was a scary thought at first sending my children abroad to Europe for medical school but knowing that they would have each other for support helped put my mind to ease. It’s just natural for a mother and father to worry. The first year they attended the school I went with my children to Lublin to make sure they would be settled in and that everything would be alright. The staff at HMI as well as the staff at the Medical University of Lublin helped a lot with the transition to life in Poland for my children as well as giving me some peace of mind that my children would be alright so far away from me. The staff greeted us at the airport in Warsaw and took all the students that arrived that day to Lublin, which was about a 2 hour drive. Once in Lublin, we were taken to the student’s residence building and we were able to settle in. Higher year students, as well as the staff were able to orient everyone with the school scheduling and gave us a tour of town where the students would spend most of their time.

Arun Acharya from HMI has helped me with this process greatly. Since the beginning he has called every now and then to make sure that my children were doing well and to make sure we were okay with everything. 6 years later and he is still helping. I joke with him by telling him that he cannot retire or anything until my children are graduated and doctors because of all the help he has provided. Now that my children are in their final year of clinical rotations, there is a lot of interaction with the staff of HMI with the scheduling and all the testing that is required to finish this journey. The previous Clinical Cordinator, Elizabeth Oakley, and the current Clinical Coordinator at HMI, Aneri Modi, are exceptional.

I am happy to say that thanks to the both of them, my children have not experienced any problems in scheduling their rotations. As well as Dr. J. Jacobs, the Director of Medical Education and Affairs, has made sure that their rotational experience has run smoothly and without any hiccups. The financial accounts department at HMI, Anant Shinde, has been on top of everything and has been flexible with the tuition payments when due. There are so many more at HMI whom I would like to thank that have put in so much work to make this possible. My children are so close to completing their goals in becoming doctors thanks to them all. It requires hard work on my childrens’ behalf but thank you to HMI for helping along the way.

Sincerely,
Meena Jaswal
