Though a large amount of time has to be devoted to study, there are opportunities to socialize, travel, and experience the European life that broadens the horizon of our students with history and cultural diversity.Located in the heart of Europe, Poland is considered to be one of the greatest countries in the region. With its size being slightly smaller than New Mexico, it is a land rich in historical monuments which has developed over centuries on the cross-road of western and eastern influences.
Because of its close ties to America and Canada, Poland offers most amenities to which students from U.S.A. & Canada are accustomed to. Similarities between North American and Polish lifestyles make it very easy for newcomers to transition into the new environment.International cuisine is available and is located in almost all the big and mid-size cities, making it easy to find your favorite foods. Chinese, Indian and Italian food is very popular and numerous fast-food restaurants such as Kentucky Fried Chicken, Pizza Hut, McDonald’s, Burger King, Subway, Cinnabon, Auntie Anne’s, and Starbucks are easy to find. Hard Rock Café and TGIF are also available, thought many students choose to cook their favorite dishes when they find the time.
The supermarkets and department stores are similar to those in the United States, making it possible for students to find their favorite brands or electronic items. Europe has a different power voltage, most appliances work on 220 volts rather than the 110 volts in the United States. Poland offers extensive choice of religious denominations, allowing students to have a chance to attend church or a temple.
Internet is available and cell phone services are inexpensive making it easy for the students to communicate with their loved ones through Skype or even FaceTime. American movies are available on local TV channels and through satellite. Almost all cities, large and small have movie theaters playing American movies.Many credit cards are accepted such as Visa, MasterCard, and American Express for local shopping. ATM machines are also available around campus.
There are a wide variety of hotels such as Marriott, Hilton, Holiday Inn, Radisson, Sheraton, and European chains found throughout Poland.Private taxis are readily available, and public transportation is efficient and very inexpensive. Trains are very comfortable for long journeys and students have the privilege to use their student ID to purchase discounted tickets enabling them to travel to almost any part of the country and throughout Europe.
